The traditional mercury thermometer is going the way of lead paint. What was once a standard feature in schools and laboratories is now part of the hazardous materials list. With safety regulations concerning mercury getting tighter and tighter, now's the time to take advantage of this special offer from Carolina Biological Supply Company and HBE International, Inc.
In exchange for ordering any of the safe, nontoxic, mercury-free Enviro-Safe® or Easy-Read Enviro-Safe® thermometers from Carolina, HBE will take back your old, unbroken mercury thermometers and dispose of themFREE.
After placing your order, call HBE at 800.98.SCHOOL (800.987.2466) to obtain a return authorization (RA) number for the mercury thermometers you are returning. Note:The number of mercury thermometers you return cannot exceed the number of mercury-free thermometers you ordered. Make sure to ask about the best way to pack and ship your mercury thermometers.
When you receive your new Enviro-Safe® or Easy-Read Enviro-Safe® thermometers, simply pack your unbroken mercury thermometers, enclose a copy of your Carolina invoice or purchase order, include your RA number, and prepay shipping to the address HBE provides.
Once your old mercury thermometers are received, HBE will dispose of them in accordance with all federal regulations. You'll receive a certificate of disposal to retain for your records.
Important: Do not ship broken mercury thermometers. Shipping broken mercury thermometers is considered a Hazardous Waste Material shipment and is in violation of Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency regulations. Any person who ships broken thermometers will be fined a minimum $150 Hazardous Waste Fee per each thermometer that arrives broken.
This program applies ONLY to thermometers. Other materials containing mercury cannot be disposed of through the Mercury Exchange Program.
